Windows Media Player 11 Errors

Windows Media Player 11 errors are generally caused by a series of problems either with this application, or with the settings / options that Windows requires from it to run. Despite WMP11 being one of the most advanced versions of the Windows Media Player program, it’s continually causing a large number of errors – from being unable to play a particular file, to just not loading up properly. To fix this, you need to first look at what might be causing Windows Media Player errors, and then use a program or resolution to fix the errors you’re experiencing.

Some of the common causes of errors which Windows Media Player 11 will exhibit include:

  • Vital files and settings missing
  • Corruption of data
  • Incompatibility of files
  • Registry issues

If you cannot use Windows Media Player, for whatever reason, it’s recommended that you first ensure you can fix the various parts of the application that are damaged, and then make sure that Windows is able to read the files that it needs to run. To do this, we recommend that you re-install WMP, then update Windows, before cleaning out the registry of your PC.

How To Fix Windows Media Player 11 Errors

STEP 1 – Re-Install / Upgrade The Software

The most effective step to repair Windows Media Player 11 errors is to first make sure that you can re-install the software, or at least upgrade it. This not only allows your system to replace the files that are causing the errors, but it will also better integrate the program into Windows – resolving many common causes of problems for your PC. To do this, you should look to follow these steps:

  • Click “Start”
  • Find & Click “Control Panel”
  • Inside control panel, find “Add / Remove Programs” (XP) / “Uninstall A Program” (Win7)
  • Click “Turn Windows Features On / Off” (to show Windows Features)
  • Locate “Windows Media Player”
  • Remove It From your PC

This will get rid of Windows Media Player, from which point you should be able to download a new version of this program from the Microsoft website; thus allowing you to replace the various files and settings required to help the program run.

STEP 2 – Update Windows

It’s also recommended that you update Windows, as this will inadvertently update the Windows Media Player application as well. Although many people will actually have “Automatic Updates” enabled for their system, it’s often the case that the likes of WMP 11 updates will not be downloaded with the other Windows updates that your PC may have. To fix this problem, it’s recommended that you update the Windows system by clicking “Start”, selecting “All Programs” and then picking “Windows Update”. This will allow you to download all the updates you require, boosting your PC’s performance, and (hopefully) stopping errors with the WMP11 program.

STEP 3 – Clean Out The Registry Of Your PC

We also recommend you clean out the registry of Windows. This database is a centralized database which all Windows systems use to keep the likes of your most recent emails, desktop wallpaper and even your desktop wallpaper inside. The registry stores an abundance of settings, options & files inside your PC – and is used to help your computer to read the files that it needs to run. Windows Media Player errors, like many of the other errors on the Windows system, have a tendency to be caused by the registry becoming corrupted / damaged on your system – leading your computer to run much slower and with a lot of problems as a result. It’s recommended that you use a registry cleaner program to scan through the various errors that the registry may have, fixing them.
